The World Championships is a tournament organized by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) for selected top ranked badminton players to compete for one of the three most prestigious title in badminton. (Other two prestigious tournaments are the Olympics and the All-England)
The tournament began in 1977 and was held once every three years until 1983. Beginning in 1985, the tournament was hosted once every two years until 2005. Beginning in 2006, the tournament was hosted annually.
